In 2016, when I bought my property, it was cleared. Damn! But also, looking at the positive side of things, it's kind of like having a blank canvas. A little creative thought had me all excited!
My initial focus was on fast-growing natives to screen out neighbours and onlookers. I quickly learned that wattles, hakea and grevillea are ideal for my soil.
Now my focus has shifted to bush tucker plants. In 2020 I learned a lot about native foods and discovered my backyard and local area was full of bush tucker.
I'm now learning how to sustainably collect seeds and germinate them, so I too can have a native food forest on my land.
This not only will be great for all my released wildlife, but to use the local bush food in cooking and preserving!!! Yum!!
More about these recipes and uses later.
