In 2016 I bought my little slice of dirt. 2.5 acres to be precise.
My goals & visions for the place overwhelmed me. But you don't get shit done just by dreaming.
So I began the long, daunting road of land development, with the end in mind.
Excavation, propogation, sketches, re-sketching, talking, emailing, changing my mind, changing it again. It's all part of the journey.
Some days I'd think 'shit. What the hell have I gotten myself into?' But then I'd take a step back from it all and look at the bigger picture. Breakdown that picture into tiny, bite size goals, write lists and tick them off.
The sense of accomplishment is a motivating thing. Do highly recommend list making.
I taught myself to use AutoCad and sketched up my house design. Shipping containers, with a Frank Lloyd Wright style to it. I'm a sucker for mid-century design.
In 2017 I got my first plans approved. (keep in mind I said first just then...where's the eye roll emoji when you need it)
Life happened and I lost motivation, found myself in a little rut and put the house building aside.
In 2019 I revisited my plans, still liking the design I had drawn, I requested to have my plans re-approved with the addition of a studio/workshop. I decided this space, once my house was built, could be pimped out and AirBnB'd to create a little sidehustle cash flow.
I'm back on track!
Plans approved and well underway. Just had the sign off for my studio. Now to insulate, line and deck it out!
